Raul Gainetdinov

In 1988 he graduated from the Russian State Medical University. Pirogov, Faculty of Medicine and Biology. After university, he worked at the Institute of Pharmacology of the Russian Academy of Medical Sciences (Moscow), studied the problems of the psychopharmacology of the dopamine system, and in 1992 he defended his Ph.D. thesis in pharmacology. From 1996 to 2008, he conducted research at Duke University, NC, USA, where he was a postdoc, Assistant Research Professor and Associate Research Professor. From 2008 to 2016, he headed the laboratory at the Italian Institute of Technology, Genova, Italy. From 2013 to 2018 he was a professor at Skoltech, Moscow. Since 2013 Professor at St. Petersburg State University, since 2015 Director of the Institute of Translational Biomedicine at St. Petersburg State University.
Raul Gainetdinov works in the field of experimental pharmacology of brain diseases using genetically modified animals as models of human diseases such as schizophrenia, depression, Parkinson's disease and attention deficit hyperactivity disorder in children (ADHD). Advises a number of international pharmaceutical companies.
Author of more than 300 scientific articles (including publications in Science, Nature, Cell, PNAS) and 13 patents. His works have been cited more than 30,000 times (H-index 84). Since 2013, he has been the chairman of the nomenclature committee for dopamine receptors of the World Society of Pharmacologists IUPHAR.
In 2018-2020, he was included in the Web of Science (WOS) Highly Cited Researcher (HCR) list in the field of pharmacology and toxicology, which represents 0.1% of the most cited scientists in the world.
In 2023 he became a laureate of the national award in the field of future technologies "VYZOV" (Russia) in the category Scientist of the Year.
